thoughts...

Last week the prompt for Contagious Creativity was Self Care. It says a lot about how my brain has been working that I wasn't able to post anything for this until the week after! One of Kat's suggestions was that we spend some time trying affirmations & she suggested Louise Hay's Power Thought Cards. My intention was to pull out one card a day for the whole week and post what happened at the end of the week.

Well, day flowed into day, my emails piled up and I got further and further behind and I found that I wasn't able to do myself this small favour. Self care went onto the to-do list underneath several emails I still owe (you know who you are and I am still really sorry!) learning the ropes on my new temporary job (that officially started today,) and other things I will not bore myself or you by repeating here. "Ahhhh...." I hear you murmuring as you look at this, "but self-care is the most important thing..." yeah. I know. And you know it too but you also know as well as me that sometimes it is pretty bloody hard work - which defeats the whole purpose in the first place!

So back to the Power Thought Cards. I actually am lucky enough to already own one of these decks. It sits on my desk between my carved wooden duck named Charlie and my notes pile. Every now and then I open up the box and leaf through the cards, hoping for inspiration. At some point I went through and sorted out the ones that I thought were especially pretty. The first card on the top of the deck is always the one that reads, "All is well in my world." (I'll tell you that story another time!) Also tucked into the box is a small piece of paper that has this quote by Rachel Snyder: "Be as healthy, as vibrant, as beautiful, as authentic as you possibly can be, in a way that speaks silently to others, You can be this, too." I like this quote because it is how I really want to live my life.

So ANYWAY, back to the deck. Determined to use the cards the way Kat suggested, I took them out of the box, fanned them out, closed my eyes and picked one. I wasn't sure that I would find that anything would be able to help me care for myself right now, but the card that I pulled absolutely kicked my ass:

"Every thought I think is creating my future."

That really made me stop and think. I've done a lot of thinking and reading about this concept in the past little while and I am intrigued by the whole self-fulfilling prophecy thing. The concept is: if you believe something hard enough, you will see it in your life - good or bad. It's like Dr. Phil saying, "You're fat because you choose to be fat." Lately I've been worrying about so many things. By concentrating on them, am I just perpetuating them? Have I chosen to believe that we are broke? Are my thoughts keeping me overweight? Unpublished? Stuck?

So this week, rather than choosing a different card every day, I am going to work with this one. I am going to focus on choosing to BE as healthy, as vibrant, as beautiful, as authentic as I possibly can be. I am going to pay attention to my thoughts and see if I can see what sort of future I have been creating up to now. By doing that I hope to sort out the old negative beliefs, and allow the new ones to creep in. I want so much in my future. Hopefully by setting the right intentions, it will all be possible.

"You'll see it when you believe it." - Wayne W. Dyer

You go girl!! Your actions already speak to those around you in a positive way. But I'm with you- being authentic is so vital. And I love the word vibrant!

Megg, if you can imagine this: i am jumping up and down beside my desk, with pom poms in my hands, cheering you on :-)

that really is a kick-ass card you pulled - it made me stop and think too.... have you ever read Lyn Grabhorn's book Excuse me your life is waiting? it's not exactly the best written book in the world :-) but what she says is spot on. i can send it to you if you like? it's all about using the way we think to change our world

Megg, this phrase just blows me away. It so completely and elequently expresses what I have been doing albiet in fits and jerks. I must look into those cards. God (I say this prayerfully) I wish I was living by the sea.

I've been working on a personal essay/memoir in which the last line, until last night, has been "I think 'what you tell yourself you are, you are...or you become.' And I realize that what you tell yourself you are can be a lie." (It's a story about body image, and how I thought I was fat so long that I did become fat.)

I'm hoping that we can both use affirmations for positive results instead of deleterious ones.

Thanks for sharing today!

What a great choice you're making, Meg! I'm really curious what beautiful future you're going to create with your thoughts.

I was fascinated by the perspective a Reiki master offered on negative thoughts. She said she sees them as releases. So when she notices a worry or an angry thought, she simply observes it and says, Oh, good, I've let that go now.

I love this quote: Be as healthy, as vibrant, as beautiful, as authentic as you possibly can be, in a way that speaks silently to others, You can be this, too

I especially like the part about doing it in a way that speaks silently to others. that is wonderful.

Meg!
You are a beautiful person, inside and out. I hope you find a way to believe it too. By the way, you're not fat!!! Some of us just have bigger bones than others! That's what I've been telling myself lately and it's been working for me!

I...need to think about this one. While eating chocolate. Seriously, Meg...you can DO this. I am always amazed by your perceptiveness and energy. Just use your power for good and not evil. ;)

Isn't it wonderful how the Universe gives us exactly what we need when we need it the most? I've been focusing on this exact same mind shift for a few months now, and I do believe it works! A great book I recommend is called Creating Money. It's about unlimited abundance, but so much more, like visualization and creating the life you want. It's already there, you just have to get yourself open and ready to start recieving the abundance that is there for everyone. We all have to work through the blocks, the sabotage, the negative self limitations. Let them go, and synchronicity starts to happen, and it will blow your mind. Looks like with the pull of that card, it has already started :-)

it's so easy to put ourselves at the bottom of the list- I know i've been doing that lately. I know life is a fine balance, and I feel like I'm constantly searching for that level place.

Beautiful post! I love those cards and will try to get some for myself...I love the way Jamie suggested that we see negative thoughts, letting them go is what we should all do!

Great thoughts here, Meg. I really believe all that, about thoughts creating the future... I was going to say, as long as we distinguish thoughts from daydreams, and then I realized: No, even daydreams create the future. I'm a little ashamed to have thought, even for a moment, that they don't. (Since you're reading a certain something, you'll have picked up the theme that "dreams are everything".) It amazes me the way a daydream can lay a path in our lives, that something that seems like a fantasy can, with more and more thought, become a necessity, a reality, and go from abstract to a real path we follow. One of the little phrases at the header of my blog is "create the future" -- I enjoyed reading this. Good luck with your thoughts!
