other books I've loved

"... and we dance to a whispered voice, overheard by the soul, undertook by the heart." - BE by Neil Diamond, from Johnathon Livingston Seagull

I haven't got very much time today but I wanted to put part 'B' of yesterday's post up. I sat and thought for ages about the adult books I have loved. I KNOW that I have missed some. Without looking at my shelves I know there is one nestled there that I have missed. But that is the beauty of a favorite book list and of Blogger - both can be edited!! So I'll add books as I remember them.

I hope that you will share your own list of books with me. I am ALWAYS looking for new friends. This is my working list and it's in no order at all! Have a wonderful day!

1. A Creative Companion, Living Juicy, Inspiration Sandwich, Succulent Wild Woman, and Eat Mangoes Naked by SARK
2. Endangered Pleasures by Barbara Holland
3. Bliss and Other Stories by Katherine Mansfield
4. Women Who Run with the Wolves by Clarissa Pinkola Estes
5. Chocolat by Joanne Harris (EAT THIS BOOK!) (I also loved Blackberry Wine and Coastliners and Five Quarters of an Orange - LOVED!)
6. A Woman's Worth by Marianne Williamson
7. Women's Bodies, Women's Wisdom by Christiane Northrop
8. Circle of Stones by Judith Duerk

10. Bird by Bird, Some Instructions on Writing and Life by Anne Lamott
11. Romancing the Ordinary by Sarah Ban Breathnach
12. Who Moved my Cheese? by Dr. Spencer Johnson (very short & very simple but embarrassingly enlightening.)
13. The Time Traveller's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger
14. Spilling Open by Sabrina Ward Harrison
15. The Lives of Girls and Women by Alice Munro
16. Outlander by Diana Gabaldon (a rough start but you're addicted by the end!)
17. The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood
18. Bridget Jones' Diary (It was really different when it came out!)
19. Diary of Anne Frank by Anne Frank
20. Enduring Dreams by John Moss

or anything by Emily Carr [sometime shard to find],
journals of Anne Morrow Lindberg

What a great list! Given me a few to check out for sure. I loev hearing what writers like to read, always interesting. A couple of my favorites are the Madeline books (little french private school girls) and Barbapapas (shape characters who can change into anything- I always wanted to be one of them!!) As a teenager, I read a series about a girl who disguises her sex to become a knight in a fictional land by Tamora Pierce...read the four books over about 10 or more times!! Grown up books would be the Poisonwood Bible, Lovely Bones, My sister's Keeper, and so many more!Makes me want to be a writer. My fiancee is also Englis and I love hearing about what he read and watched as a young child...so different yet so alike. Like most of our national comparisons I guess!
I love reading your blog, hearing about a life in such a beautiful place. Hoping to get up the nerve to start doing my own blog regularly...watch this space! Sorry this is so long!!

I LOVED loved loved Time Traveler's Wife - I check imdb.com periodically to see if they've cast the movie yet. Hope they don't screw that up. Also, I had the great good fortune to take a 9-week writing class from Anne Lamott at the bookstore where I worked during college. She was fantastic, in person just like in her writing. So funny and sarcastic and warm.

Have your read Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials series? If not -- you MUST.

Such a fun list! I'm eager to read many of your recommendations.

P.S. I love "Bird by Bird," too! And I have "Letters to a Young Poet" on my Amazon list. You've convinced me to buy it!

Wow, that's uncanny. I've read just about all of these as well and they are among my favorites. I'd also add books by Leslie Levine, Jasper Fforde and Jennifer Louden.
